I’ve talked about Artificial Intelligence (AI) on my blog before. We’ve experimented with using it for several things, from making simple templates to creating product descriptions. Truth be told, we use AI every day at BZ FurFur for one reason or another. It is not something we are ashamed of or try to disguise. There is, however, something to be said about the repercussions of using AI. We try to be environmentally conscious here at BZ FurFur and keep our carbon footprint low, try to be conscious of artists’ rights, and simply do the right thing. So there are a few things you should consider when using AI to help augment your business.
- Every response from AI has a carbon footprint. Remember that there is a computer in another part of the world that is processing the prompt you submitted. These are high-powered computers designed to churn through heavy volumes of data. Consider the environmental impact of your requests and try to limit them whenever possible. Learn how to write good prompts so that you can get the response you want on the first prompt instead of the third or fourth.
- There are a lot of artists and other skilled professionals whose data is being used to compose the responses you are getting from AI. Look for software that credits those folks or gives citations when someone else’s work is used. Understand the copyright agreements, if any, of the responses you are getting thoroughly before using them for commercial purposes.
- Don’t blindly accept anything that AI tells you. It is really easy to look at an AI response, give it a quick glance over and think “hey, it’s good enough”. I have heard countless stories of AI that has written things that may appear to be correct at first blush but under closer scrutiny can be, at best, misleading and, at worst, completely wrong. Read through what it is telling you, fact-check, and do your own research before blindly accepting what AI turns out.
AI can be a wonderful tool that can be used to really help to improve your business, lessen your workload, and get more done in less time. It can, however, also be an impediment and, in some cases, downright irresponsible, if not used with care. Do you have an experience working with AI? Share your stories with us @bz_furfur and, as always, stay unique.
