If you follow BZ FurFur, you already know we’re pretty active on social media—especially Instagram. These platforms are a great way for us to stay connected with our community, see what other artists are up to, keep in touch with the brands we use, and, most importantly, share our work with friends and family.
Over the years, we’ve experimented with different approaches to social media with mixed results. This summer, we decided to focus on making our content more engaging for our fans. The challenge? Time. I spend most of my day creating art, while Brian juggles a full-time job, college, and family life. That doesn’t leave a lot of hours for elaborate content creation.
Hiring a marketing firm is always an option—but right now, it’s not in the budget. Instead, we explored a few apps designed to help artists and small businesses streamline their social media. We tested three: CapCut, OSnap, and SCRL.
A quick note:
- All testing was done on Apple iOS devices
- We’re not affiliates for any of these apps
- These are our personal opinions—your mileage may vary
1. Video Editing: CapCut
Website: capcut.com
Cost: Free, Standard ($10/mo), Pro ($20/mo)
Features: Video editing, templates, transitions, effects, captions
Of the three, CapCut is probably the most well-known. Alongside Instagram’s built-in editing tools, it’s one of the most popular video editors for Reels.
We started with the free version but quickly found limitations. One of CapCut’s best features is its library of templates—you can drop in your photos and videos, and it automatically adds effects, transitions, music, and text. However, many of the most creative templates are only available in the Standard tier and up.
We’ve tried using Adobe Premiere in the past, but its overwhelming feature set slowed us down. CapCut strikes a nice balance—it’s beginner-friendly yet capable. We’ve easily trimmed videos, added smooth transitions, synced clips to music, and layered in text, all without leaving the app. Exporting is simple, and you can post directly to Instagram, Facebook, and TikTok.
That said, even with the Standard tier, some tools are limited—auto captions have a monthly cap, and certain AI features (like voice isolation) are locked behind higher tiers. Still, for the price, it’s an excellent value, and we plan to stick with it.

2. Stop Motion & Timelapse: OSnap
Website: osnapphotoapp.com
Cost: Free, Pro ($1.99/mo, $8.99/year, or $19.99 lifetime)
Features: Timelapse, stop motion
Our customers often ask for behind-the-scenes looks at our creative process. The tricky part? Pyrography takes time—lots of it. A short clip feels incomplete, but a full-length recording is far too long for most viewers. OSnap solves that problem.
Timelapse Mode takes photos at set intervals, then stitches them together into a fast-paced video of the entire process. You can control the snapshot interval, frame duration, and delete unwanted shots to keep things smooth.
Stop Motion Mode is where OSnap really shines. It lets you create animations by taking photos and adjusting the scene between each shot—think classic clay animation like Wallace and Gromit. We had a blast making it look like my tools were moving around on their own.
We upgraded to Pro for the extra features—camera alignment tools, fine-grained controls, and hands-free shooting. The one-time lifetime payment option is a refreshing alternative to endless subscriptions. Highly recommend, even if you stick to the free version.

3. Photo Collage Maker: SCRL
Website: scrl.com
Cost: Free, Premium ($59.99/year)
Features: Freeform canvas, seamless carousel, templates
While Reels might dominate the algorithm, Instagram posts are still a great way to showcase a portfolio. SCRL helps present work in a more creative way.
We’ve only used the free tier so far, and it’s been plenty. SCRL lets you build collages that span multiple Instagram slides. Its seamless carousel feature is especially cool—it allows a single image to stretch across several slides, so it looks like you’re scrolling through one continuous piece.
The free version includes a nice selection of templates, and you can design your own layouts. For now, the variety is enough for us, but if we need more, we might consider Premium.
